Becoming A Volunteer
Volunteers and Coaches are the lifeblood of any volunteer organization and are always needed and greatly appreciated.
As part of the Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), all Greenville Hockey volunteers who have regular contact with players must have a USA hockey background check and complete USA Hockey SafeSport training.
Follow the steps below for the volunteer position you are planning to fill.
- Step 1: Get your USA Hockey ID. You must select "Ice Player/Coach" or "Volunteer"
- Step 2: Complete Background screening at NCSI (8 digit registration ID #35615801)
- Step 3: Complete SafeSport Training
- Step 4: Register as a volunteer or coach
Volunteer Opportunities
Locker Room Monitor
Time Commitment: 1 hour per practice & game (30 minutes before and 30 minutes after)
Description: Ensures locker room safety and supervision before and after the game. Helps enforce locker room policies and maintains a positive, respectful environment for players. 2 Monitors are needed for every practice and game.
Penalty Box Attendant
Time Commitment: Duration of the game (Home, Away, and Tournament games)
Description: Responsible for opening the penalty box doors and monitoring players while they serve penalties. Helps facilitate smooth transitions on and off the ice, and communicates with coaches and referees when needed.
Scorekeeper
Time Commitment: Duration of the game (Home Games Only)
Description: Keeps a written record of goals, penalties, and assists on the official scoresheet. Works closely with referees and other volunteers to ensure accurate tracking of game stats.
Clock Operator
Time Commitment: Duration of the game (Home Games Only)
Description: Operates the game clock and scoreboard, tracking game time, penalties, and periods. Must stay focused and work in sync with the referees and scorekeeper.
DJ / Music Operator
Time Commitment: Duration of the game (Home Games Only)
Description: Controls music during warm-ups, intermissions, and breaks in play to keep energy high and the crowd engaged. A fun and easy way to add spirit to the rink!
Videographer
Time Commitment: Duration of the game (Home, Away, and Tournament games)
Description: Sets up and manages the live stream of games on Facebook. Ensures a steady video feed, follows the action, and keeps families and fans connected—even from afar!
Team Manager
Time Commitment: Varies throughout the season
Description: Acts as the main communication link between coaches, parents, and the organization. Responsibilities may include managing the team calendar, organizing travel/game logistics, uploading scores, and assisting with registration or documentation.
On-Ice Support Coach/Helper
Time Commitment: Varies by team schedule
Description: Assists certified coaches during practice and on-ice sessions by helping run drills and supervising players.
Note: This position requires additional USA Hockey coaching certification and training, including SafeSport, Background Screening, and Coaching Modules.
